Six years later
After getting nudged by zztzed  today, to prove him wrong I figured I'd write a brief post here. One every six years should be enough.

Hmmm, so what's happened since my last post in June 2002, in roughly chronological order ...
Ummm, that's pretty much it I guess. I haven't touched MZX/ZZT (nmiaow) in many years, though occasionally I'll get a game idea or an urge to create something ... just hasn't actually happened yet, and may never happen at all. Oh, I did an interview with cly5m on his site awhile back for his ZZT interviews thing.

Bai! :)

(Edit: There, I fixed all the links.)

(Edit #2: In case anyone cares, I found an incomplete copy of Darkness 3, which was a collaborative effort between Clint Neilson (aka Monthigos) and myself back in 1998 which was never released. DL it to revel in its strange unfinished glory. Or don't.)

Hmmm haven't written in awhile.

Almost halfway through my summer semester at the beautiful University of Guelph. It's much more bearable here since we got our air conditioning fixed. Of course, as soon as we got it fixed, the weather turned all cold. *rolls eyes*

You know what's been annoying me lately? Well ... many things ... but one thing in particular, is hearing Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker talking about Box Car Racer as if it were some kind of radical departure from Blink182. Well, someone has to say it ... YOU SOUND THE SAME! This is the same tripe you jerks have been pushing with Blink182!!! I mean the songs are okay ... just like Blink's songs are okay, and all sound the same.

Dashboard Confessional is #11 on the Edge102 Top 30, so I guess there is some justice in the world.

I've decided not to waste any more time staring at various laptops online, wishing I could in some way rationalize buying one ... instead I've decided that, when I finally graduate, I will buy the best, most freakin expensive laptop I can find. (Graduating without debt = nice)

I really rely on having net access ... I couldn't go back to dialup after using cable/school net for so long. Net access went down for about 15mins today, just when I wanted to use it, and it was like "AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!#$(^" ... or some vague approximation thereof.

Now back to work ... is it just me, or is the available Python/TKInter documentation sometimes not unlike scribblings by a blind monkey on napkin scraps? Sometimes doing the simplest of tasks seems like pulling teeth. Lousy assignment.

What Video Game Character Are You? I am the Intellivision Blackjack Dealer.I am the Intellivision Blackjack Dealer.

I am a diligent worker who's most likely working in an office somewhere now. Good with numbers, bright enough to see my way clear through any situation, I'm commited to my work. Others may not trust me, but I'm always fair and honest. Except for that ace up my sleeve, but again, that's just part of doing my job. What Video Game Character Are You?

The Intellivision was my first video game system. It rocked. ;)

In other news, I am fully moved into my summer res room ... it's a lot bigger than my old one. If you want I posted some pics of my room for my mom to see and you can see 'em too ... http://www.dosgames.com/room/. Whee! :)

Thank you Mario - Oh! Daisy

Moving BACK into residence on Wednesday. That's for summer semester. Apparently I've moved up from 176 to 115 on the waiting list for fall semester. Well whooptyshit! Heh that's what I should've said to the person I talked to on the phone when I called to ask about my residence status. "You're currently 115th on the waiting list. // Well ... whooooooptySHIT! // *long silence*"

Ahem. Yeah, I installed Cygwin. Seems to work okay ...

Why is it that the theater where I want to see Spiderman is like the only theater anywhere that apparently isn't showing it?! I think I'd better phone and ask in case their stupid ghetto 1998-era designed website is wrong.

I'm wondering if Pimsleur Quick & Simple Chinese : Cantonese [ABRIDGED] is worth purchasing. It's 4 CDs that are supposed to help you learn some basic Chinese. If I'm serious about learning Chinese (which I'm not sure I have the ability, time, etc. to do properly) I should really get the full, non-abridged version, but that's an insane $241.50US while the abridged is a much less insane $13.97. Although that's exaclty why I'm worried I won't learn a damn thing from the cheap version. Grrr.

Mmmmm whatever is cooking for dinner smells good ... one of the many perks of living at home, at least one meal a day is taken care of. Yay homecooking!

I shouldn't listen to DC. It gets me sad ... these are the lyrics I would write if I was in any way in touch with my emotions ... able to articulate how I feel, let's say.

I prefer to articulate myself nonverbally, via songs I write. Of course I don't let anyone hear them. ^_^ *rolls eyes* I think I've been doing better lately though, since I got Impulse Tracker working in XP via VDMSound. I've been aiming to write music that could be used in an RPG, rather than just randomly writing whatever I feel like. Seems to be helping a bit, although I still haven't FINISHED any new songs. Old habits die hard ... start many projects, finish none. :)

Oh yes, almost forgot ... GO LEAFS GO!. That is all.

Anyone played Ragnarok Online? I started playing it the other day (it's a free-cuz-its-in-beta MMORPG) and my friend was supposed to be helping me get started, but she's MIA ... so if you have any tips to give me, or feel like starting to play and want to play with me ... ^_^ The DL is 250megs ... kinda hefty.

I really need a haircut. But the place I always got my hair cut closed!! So now what?! I could always buzz my head. Hmmmmm .....

bah ...
Looks like some Ever{Quest,Crack} player killed themselves and now the mother is suing Sony to get warning labels put on the games. Because obviously it's EverQuest's fault, even though the kid was diagnosed with depression and schizoid personality disorder. *rolls eyes* I mean, it's an unfortunate event, but c'mon ...

Hehe, my friend sent me the nicest email. She rocks!

Thus I am in a good mood. Yay!

I'm going to try to brush up on my C programming skills (or lack thereof) during the brief interval between the Winter and Spring semesters, so maybe this time I will be able to pass CIS*2450. (Link is to last year's webpage.)

This computer's fan(s) are too noisy. I think I'll have to buy cheaper ones. Yeah, that's the ticket. After all I'm saving $2000 by not buying a laptop. ;)

I've been reading The Mouse Driver Chronicles. It's pretty good, but it feels kind of streched out. Like, the guy finished the book and it was only 150 pages, so he had to stretch it out a bit to an even 250. But it's still very interesting. I need to get more books on entrepreneurship.

Home again ... exams are done and finally am finished moving all my junk back into my old room. My arms are going to be dead tomorrow; after helping everyone move out yesterday, and then moving myself out today ... owie. I'm only home for 2 weeks because I'm going back sometime around the 7-8 to start the spring semester. Exams went okay I guess ... although I don't think studying helped much for most of them which is kind of irritating, considering I studied quite a bit for these exams. Bah. Bah, I say!

This is probably a dumb question, but is Cygwin just a Linux emulator for Windows, or what? If I were going to install Linux, what distro should I use? (Keeping in mind I'm quite inexperienced with it so I'd want the easiest-to-use one possible ... I'd be multibooting this machine (it has XP on it now) with it.)

I want one of these. Forget a laptop, I'm starting to save now for when one of those babies is released. $*%#'in sweet.

In other news, I have a Psychology final in less than six hours ... I suppose I should sleep. "Oh boy, sleep, that's where I'm a viking!"

Wow, Barney9651 has a LJ now ...

Hmmm, what's been going on ..... I am in the middle of exams again ... I am pretty sure I failed my CIS3110 final, but so did EVERYONE else I talked to, so maybe they'll bell it or something. Anyways I got 85% on the midterm and perfect on most assignments so I should be okay. Next one is on Sat night ... argh.

I'm also coming back to school during the summer semester ... bah. Well it won't be so bad, but since I'll be taking classes I won't be working, thus won't be making money. Well except from good 'ol dosgames.com. If I were working and making money I might buy myself something cool yet frivolous, like this notebook computer. *sigh* Maybe my parents will buy it for me as an early birthday presents. And maybe monkeys will fly out of my @$$.

Let's list the things on my desk right now ...

(1) Computer monitor
(1) Computer keyboard
(1) Computer mouse with dosgames.com mousepad
(2) Computer speakers
(1) Computer printer
(3) Empty cans of Coke
(1) Half full can of Coke (soon to be empty)
(1) Spindle of Memorex blank CDs
(1) Mr T "Wacky Wobbler"
(4) Pure Energy AA Rechargable Batteries
(1) Diablo II CD
(1) NHL2002 CD
(2) "Love Hina" CDs (they're not mine ah'ite :P)
(1) Casio scientific calculator
(5) Coke gold-colored olympic promotional hockey coins
(1) HP 315 Digital Camera

Whee. The digital cam is a recent purchase. It works pretty well considering it's about the cheapest digital cam you can get that isn't total crap quality. Haven't taken many pictures yet ...... I took some of my rat. We had to train a rat as part of my "Psychology of Learning" class. See a picture of our rat here. (Picture reduced down to this size for size/clarity) Her name was "Dot" because she had a dot.

Doodoodoo ..... that's all for now. I will write more about "emotional" stuff later I guess. Back to studying I guess. Boooooo{urns}.

The hell ...
If you use WinXP/2000 you might want to read this ... yeesh just when MS was gaining some points with me for making some improvements with XP, I go and read about this ... the most damning part of which is post #50 (near the bottom) where it comes out that this bug was reported to MS over a month ago. (This bug involves sites being able to use Javascript to launch programs in IE6 (5?) in WinXP/2000. Yeesh.)

Got home yesterday for "reading week" ...

The NIN "deluxe" live CD was here waiting for me ... I was a little hesitant to buy it (ebay) because it was kinda expensive, and I didn't know how good it would be. Well, let me say, it's SO FUCKING GOOD. I am so impressed! The deluxe edition: totally worth the price!!!

And ... ordered my new comp today. Decided to go with a local store instead of buying from Dell or Alienware or whatever. It could be ready today, but if not today, Monday. I hope it's ready today. :)

Happy Valentines Day
For the first time in a few years, I feel fine on the 14th of Feb ... my situation hasn't changed much ... however my feelings about it have.

It's only a day. For those of you with someone special to spend it with ... cherish the moment. ^_^

So for the last three days, my computer has refused to turn on ... and I've had to open it up, fiddle with things, and keep trying until it works. Today, same thing ... and finally I got it going, it booted to Windows, and I turned it right side up (it was laying on its side as I worked). It locked up. I was like, "Ooooookay." So I experimented, and it turns on when it's on its side, but not when it's right-side up. (ATX case) When it's right-side up the power/HD lights come on, there's a few HD noises, but then it just freezes with nothing on the screen and with both lights on. Quite annoying! So currently I am typing this with my $&@&%@%@&^!@*)#%!#^@ PC lying on it's side on the )(*#&%#*%^@ floor.

I am also computer shopping ... ;) I would of course love a Voodoo but since that would run me $4000CDN easy I think I'll have to go with a non-cool-looking option. I want a BOXED computer this time, from a name brand company, not "Joe's Discount Computer Outlet" (fictitious name) ie. some little computer shop around the corner. I want a warranty! So I was thinking about Gateway because they seem to be able to give me a good price on what I want, ie:
P4 1.5-2.0 (doesn't really matter)
256 ram
ATI Radeon (this seems to be the difficult part, not many offer this)
SB sound (whatever)

Suggestions? That won't leave me broke?! :)

*sigh* Of course this happens when I have so much work to do ... midterms Monday, Thurs, Fri, and assignments due Thurs and Fri as well. ARGH! Plus I have been more consumed with feelings of self-loathing lately than usual. Hmmm.

Went to the residence "semi-formal" last weekend ... it was okay. I actually danced, albeit briefly. (And after 5 or 6 drinks, hehe. I don't drink often, but when I do I am not a cheap drunk.) I basically only went because the girls in my suite wanted me to go ... bah. I had to get a suit, which was expensive, but I guess I'll need to have a suit eventually anyways .............

Hmmm. Yay pointlessness. Oh yeah, seriously, if you have computer advice (any idea what the problem with this computer might be?) or suggestions on where I should buy from (I'd want to order online and be able to customize) I'd appreciate it ...

Also ...

Valentine's Day is approaching ... *dun dun dun* ^_^ But I'll save that rant for later ... ;)

Well lookie here
Hmmm, Spin magazine has released their list of The 50 Greatest Bands of All Time. And look who's #2 after The Beatles ... hmmm. ;) Even though the choice may have been influenced by Joey's unfortunate passing last year, I nevertheless applaud Spin for their choice. I would agree with many of their choices, actually ... although some surprise me a bit. (Beastie Boys kick ass, no doubt ... but #10 of all time?!)

Whelp, back in Guelph I am. It's quiet here, most people aren't back yet. My new next door neighbor is an exchange student from Australia. Shmaybe he knows Legendd! ... But probably not. ;)

I have dust all over my new shirt. Apparently soon we're going to start getting charged for every bag of garbage after the first two or something, so we have to go thru the house and throw out all of the junk now before we get charged for it. (At least, that's the excuse for cleaning the house we've been given.) So ... clean out the closet time. Lots of dust, lots of pointless crap ... crap that I haven't thrown out because I hate throwing anything out! I still have big piles of notes from high school ... :) Some interesting stuff though ... I found my initial scribbes from 1998 where I was trying to figure out how to design dosgames.com. HEY! Maybe I'll find my long lost HQ/HQ2 notes. That'd rock. Owell back to sorting out this closet ... aUGH.
